How Do I Choose the Best Drum Rotator?

When choosing a drum rotator, several aspects of the device must be examined to be sure you have selected the best one for your needs. The lifting capacity, lifting height and type of drum rotator are all areas that must be considered when making a choice. You will be required to choose between either a stand-alone style drum rotator or a lifting, rotating drum design.

In order for you to choose the best drum rotator, you will need to examine the specific functions needed from the device. If you require only a device that will turn a barrel, you will be able to choose a much more affordable machine than if you also require a machine that can lift a barrel as well. Likewise, if you require a drum rotator that also lifts the drum, you will need to choose between a hoist-lifted machine, a forklift-mounted or a self-contained version of drum rotator. Much of this decision will be based on the height of the lifting requirement, as well as the location where the drums are stored. Your choice will also be determined on the location of your drum storage area, such as being located inside or outside of a building.

The weight of the drum being rotated will often be a deciding factor when choosing to purchase a drum rotator. It is always possible to lift a lighter drum with a heavy lifting machine, however, you cannot lift and rotate a heavy drum with a light-duty machine. When possible, you may wish to choose the heaviest rated machine that fits within your budget. You will also have to choose between power rotating and manual rotating devices when choosing the best machine for your needs. Manual rotating machines are typically less costly when compared to power devices.

You may also be required to choose between a device that will fit steel or plastic drums. When possible, you can typically have better results with a drum rotator that can accommodate both types of drums. Many designs use an interchangeable band to fit both types of drum. The self-contained version of rotator is commonly more expensive than other models, however, this version allows the machine to be used in all areas of your shop as well as outside. This version also allows for floor plan changes, shop remodeling and add-ons, making it the most flexible and versatile type of drum rotator available.
